Atlanta Thanksgiving Half Marathon

For my journal and my memories:

On Thursday (11.24.11) Thanksgiving morning, I was able to compete in my first half marathon. It was such an awesome experience. Ever since my sister Liz competed in her first half marathon at Bear Lake and watching her run in it, I made it my goal that someday I would do that! So here I am in Georgia completing my first half marathon.

It was a nerve racking thing for me to do. I always thought to myself, how in the world do you ever run 13 miles. That is just crazy. Well crazy me I did it!!! (and yes I would do it again and contemplating going 26.2).

I have to give a big shout out to all my supporters in this race. Without them encouraging me and pushing me I don't think I would have ever done something like this. But now I know it is possible! Thanks to Kris for signing me up for the race and helping me with the girls all the mornings I went out and ran. And for coming early with the girls race day to encourage me on. He was able to meet me at mile 8 and mile 11 and at the finish line. What a help that was to see them at those points!!

For my awesome sisters for being great examples that it can be done! And calming my nerves in the days prior to the race. For my mom and dad for buying me an awesome new running shirt and being so supportive of everything I do!!

For awesome friends who ran with me and gave me encouragement that I could do it. And for all my awesome family and friends who wished me good luck and followed up to see how it went.

What an great experience to run a race in Georgia and to see more of downtown Atlanta. In this race we were able to start at Turner Field (where the Braves play) and run past Georgia State University, then to Centennial Olympic Park, Piedmont Park, Oakland Cemetery and Martin Luther King Monument.

I was so happy with what I accomplished. I was able to reach my three goals for this race. No potty problems :), no walking or stopping, and have fun!! I was able to complete 13.1 miles in 2:07:14. Yay!!! Here are some pictures of the race for all my family and friends!!

Burr... I am cold!! Lets start this thing!!
